I too chimed in with “What’s Up!” – earning a raised eyebrow from my hubby AND eye roll from my son. I tried to explain… – oh well. I’m looking to do the summer guild build and your videos were a great insperation to ‘buck-up’ and give it a go. Thanks for letting us see mistakes and the recovery! Looks great!

Great piece of furniture! This is my 1st set of videos to watch on your site. I heard about you from Wood Talk over at The Wood Whisperer. Glad I came over!

You’ve got a really easy going way about yourself and the way you film. I dig it. Like Marc and Matt, I like the way you include mishaps and what you did to remedy the situation. That’s so very human of you to do. LOL!

It’s not a screw-up if you can fix it. Think about it. Great craftspeople have learned how to correct their mistakes and as a result have learned how to minimize their chances for error. By the way…the chest of drawers turned out very well.

Nice revovery on the finish there Shannon. The finished piece looks great and no one would be the wiser, at least not until you decided to broadcast it . Seriously though, I think fixing and recovering from our mistakes is what helps us to improve. None of us were born with the skills of a Townsend or Seymour.

Hi Shannon.

I really enjoyed the chest of drawers project and I learned a great deal and apparently so did you! One thing that set alarm bells off in my head as I watched the third installment was when you decided to set the drawers in a bit from the drawer blades. I made a craftsman nightstand where the drawer blades are proud by about 1/4″. The piece is stained red oak. After a few months of use, I found that the stain wore off just below the drawer sides and is visible when the drawers are closed. This may happen to the paint on your chest of drawers. When I made the second matching nightstand, I made the drawer blades with a very shallow rabbet on the exposed portion so that the drawers don’t touch it. The rabbet was also used to match the drawer reveal around the inset drawers rather than planing a chamfer on the bottom of the drawers.
