Hello all. I wanted to put up a quick post saying that I am still here and working on releasing the supplemental video or videos for my latest podcast on the Euro Screw Cap pen build. I have the footage I need which was a trial in and of itself. I have a great respect for The Wood Whisperer and Matt’s Basement Workshop for the videos they turn out. I was really surprised to see the hours slip by on the clock during filming my process for making a pen. First of all I don’t have a camera man so constantly moving the tripod around and getting the shot right could take 20 minutes for 30 seconds of footage. Also I am taking video directly from the digital camera so I will often need 2 or 3 takes to make sure I am in the frame properly. I have some great blooper shots where all you see is my chest in the frame.

Then we have the actual editing process. I did some searching for software and downloaded a few freeware option just to play around. One of them, AVS editor, seemed more intuitive than others and provided enough options for what I was trying to do so I did drop the $35 to buy the licensed version. On my shopping list is a new Macintosh computer and I know the editing software included therein will serve all my needs so I was not concerned with buying the ultimate software since I hope to be in Mac land early next year. So I spent the weekend learning to use the tool and playing around with the footage I have already. Sometimes having too many options can be distracting as I kept playing with transitions between cuts and text overlay to the point where I got nothing constructive done. Needless to say, I will have a finished product this evening and hope to get out the video during the normal podcast release. Because of the delay, I have decided to release the entire build in one video instead of breaking it up over two. I think I have kept my listeners waiting long enough. I don’t want to pull a Matt Vanderlist and insert a cliffhanger.

So as good as my intentions were to put out two videos last week to accompany the last podcast, the wait will be over tonight. I am putting out this post mainly as a way to hold myself to getting the final edit done and distributed to you all. Thank you for listening and your patience.
