New router dust collection from Rockler

whirlwindcollector.jpgOr This?

I just got a new Rockler catalog in the mail yesterday and this new dust collection system for routers is pretty slick. The Down Under Router Table Dust Port is simply an insert plate that fits into your table (they have JessEm lift compatible inserts too) and the collector with included hose attaches toolessly (is that a word?) to the bottom. It is supposed to be a great solution in your router table especially when you are doing covered routing tasks like stopped dados.

The Whirlwind Dust port is an edge routing collector similar to the swivel port that Festool uses on their routers. Now it only attaches to the Rockler One Plate base, but that product is pretty cool as well because it offers tooless switching of insert plates for template routing and different sized bits. Supposedly the design of the Whirlwind will draw chips and dust away from the bit like a cyclone to a 2 1/2″ port. It doesn’t look like it swivels like the Festool collector but it would still seem to do a pretty good job.

I have a few Rockler Rewards certificates floatin around so I put them to good use and ordered mine today. I’ll be sure to put them through their paces and let everyone know how they work. I just installed a JessEm lift in my table saw mounted router table and was contemplating some dust collection for it. This should do the trick.
