Five years ago, I inherited some tools from my wife's grandfather who was a general contractor. At the same time my wife and I had just purchased our first home. With a mountain of home improvement tasks ahead of me I figured that I should learn how to use all these cool looking tools sitting in my garage. That was just the beginning...I was hooked for life. Like a lot of beginning woodworkers, I was all about power tools. I had a few saws and hand planes but they sat on a shelf gathering copious amounts of dust. And that style served me just fine. It wasn't until I was knee deep in an Arts & Crafts style wall shelf that I realized that I could refine the work by finessing all my joinery with a plane in order to get that perfect fit. So began the next big obsession in my journey. Over the last few years I have acquired and restored some antique woodworking tools as well as bought some new ones. I am fascinated with the traditional ways of doing things and astounded by the work produced by my predecessors hundreds of years ago. I remain dedicated to the modern ways, but now I augment all my work with a heavy sampling of unplugged woodworking.
The shop is a humble 340 square foot one car garage. What I lack in space I make up for in organization. It has taken years to get everything where I want it (and can find it later) and I am sure it will take a few more years before I am completely satisfied. See for yourself, come take the shop tour!
